Motorola Xoom is the tablet from Motorola, officially unveiled at CES 2011.
The first standout feature of the tablet Motorola Xoom is its Android setup: developed in collaboration with Google and NVIDIA, Xoom is the first device of its kind to hit the market with the Android 3.0 core specifically designed for tablets.
As for the processor, it will be a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2: another step forward compared to the competition. The screen will obviously be touchscreen and its size measures 10.1 inches, with a resolution of 1280×800 pixels.
Another particularity is the presence of a series of tools that perhaps have little to do with tablet technology in the strict sense but undoubtedly increase its appeal to certain user groups: here is the barometer, the magnetometer, the accelerometer, the gyroscope, and sensors to record brightness.
There will be two cameras: one 5 megapixels and the other, useful for video calls, 2 megapixels.
Regarding connectivity, 3G, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi are ensured; furthermore, compatibility with Verizon’s 4G LTE network has already been promised: Motorola has in fact announced updates and integrations in this regard in the near future.
A very rich basic “equipment”, therefore, that already challenges the tablet giant: iPad by Apple.
However, although the Motorola Xoom may beat other competitors such as Asus to the punch, since Xoom’s launch is scheduled for March while Asus will wait at least until May, it must also be said that the price of the Motorola device is not entirely competitive, not even compared to the iPad.
It is estimated that the price of the Motorola Xoom will be around 659 dollars, currently about 507 euros at exchange rates. Considering that the base version of the iPad (16 GB, with Wi-Fi) costs 499 euros on Apple’s store, it is evident that – at least price-wise – there isn’t much tough competition yet, if at all: it comes down to a few euros. However, to give a definitive judgment, we will have to wait for the official communication regarding the Motorola Xoom and the first reviews of its use.
