Tired of dirty keyboards or sudden spills ruining your typing experience? Now you can get your hands on a washable keyboard. Logitech has announced the release of its new Washable Keyboard K310, initially available only in the United States and arriving in Europe starting October 2012.
In addition to being water-resistant – it can even be fully submerged – this new washable keyboard won’t be damaged by spills like coffee or soda.
Compared to other waterproof keyboards produced in past years, this Logitech accessory offers a distinct advantage: while previous models were merely “shielded” and “sealed” in sensitive areas, this keyboard’s unique design features a series of drainage holes on the back.
This is where the water – which should not exceed 50°C – will drain out after washing. No special procedures are needed, other than waiting patiently for the keyboard to dry completely.
The keys will not fade, as they are made with a special UV coating and the characters are produced using a laser printing process.
Perhaps with the advent of this innovation, keyboards will cease to be a breeding ground for bacteria, dust, crumbs, and general grime, as they can now be thoroughly washed instead of just “dusted” with compressed air or special erasers.
As for the price of the Logitech Washable Keyboard K310, it will be $40.
