Work is underway for the new edition of Linux Day 2013, taking place in October: here are the first details.
Preparations are underway across Italy for the next installment of the now-historic “Linux Day”: in 2013, gatherings will take place in numerous cities throughout the country on Saturday, October 26, 2013.
In addition to confirming the event date, the “Italian Linux Society” (ILS) also announced the theme that will characterize the upcoming 2013 edition some weeks ago.
The guiding principle for the discussions and meetings at this October’s Linux Day will be innovation.
This concept is at the very core of free software, the development of which allows us today to enjoy a range of tools that have become part of our daily lives: from protocols for browsing online to the development of social networks, open standards and open-source software have been extensively utilized.
This has made the web and certain products – even purely hardware and material items – accessible to everyone, serving as valuable allies in organizing work and leisure time on a daily basis.
To better understand how true and widespread all of this is, perhaps more than many might imagine, consider that Linux and other Unix-like systems are used as the foundation for the operating systems in cars, satellite navigators, TVs, various home appliances, and of course, smartphones and tablets.
The specific programs for Linux Day 2013 for each participating city will be released soon.
