Kim Dotcom: substantial reward for those who “breach” Mega and discover bugs

Anyone who manages to find bugs in Mega or even breach the system will receive money as a reward from Kim Dotcom.

While Mega, Kim Dotcom’s new venture, takes its first steps and already welcomes thousands of new subscribers, its “patron” is not losing sight of the platform’s security aspect.
For this reason, Kim Dotcom has decided to launch a kind of competition, aimed at hackers and tech enthusiasts: real money is up for grabs for anyone who can put the system to the test.
Whoever manages to breach Mega can take home a handsome 10,000 euros, as a reward for finding vulnerabilities to fix.
In particular, the algorithm used by Mega to encrypt content uploaded to the platform is the focus of the staff’s concerns working on Mega: there are fears that – in some parts – the mechanism may not be strong enough to withstand potential cyber attacks.
For this reason, they are seeking hackers capable of identifying problems, so that measures can be taken before all subscribers bear the brunt.
The reporting of other bugs will also lead to a monetary reward, still in the amount of 10,000 euros for each new vulnerability discovered.

This initiative, dubbed the “Mega Crypto & Security Reward Program“, has also been seen as a way to communicate how secure the new Mega actually is: behind the “bounty” offered by Kim Dotcom, there would be a desire to demonstrate the system’s impregnability.
Certainly, the challenge for hackers worldwide has been thrown down, and you can bet that there are surely those already engaged with this particular “competition”.
More details on the types of bugs to look for have been released on the official Mega blog.
