Keon and Peak: Mozilla’s Smartphones

Mozilla announces the upcoming release of two smartphones based on Firefox OS: they will be called Keon and Peak, here are the first previews.

Keon and Peak are the names of two new smartphones that will likely reach stores in the coming months.
Their uniqueness lies in being the first two models designed by the Mozilla Foundation, which is enough to set them apart from other devices already on the market.
We are therefore talking about an absolute novelty, but not a total surprise: it was in the air that the Mozilla staff could announce such news at any moment.
In fact, it became clear to everyone that the intention to dedicate themselves to the mobile sector was strongly present for the developers of the ‘fox of fire,’ as evidenced by Mozilla’s announcement a few months ago of the development of the Firefox OS operating system.
Few technical details are known about Keon and Peak: according to what was announced by Geeksphone, the Spanish company that physically produced them, these would be devices with Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core processors of 1 Mhz and 1.2 Mhz; RAM should be 512 MB and internal memory 4 GB.

As for the displays, one smartphone should feature a 3.5-inch screen, while the other would be larger, with a 4.3-inch display. The camera should be 3 Megapixels for the Keon, and 8 Megapixels for the Peak.
So far, this is what has been revealed by those working on the project.
There is no official release date for the two new smartphones yet, and certainly, the products will not be immediately available to everyone initially: Mozilla has indeed decided to start by distributing the two devices to developers, in order to test and improve them, in the pure spirit of an open and collaborative community.
Not only that: precisely to bring developers closer to the project, it has been decided to launch meetings called “Firefox OS App Days”.
