An iPhone 5 – or rather, its prototype – was reportedly carelessly lost in a bar in San Francisco. An old story: unsurprisingly, there are many doubts.

Those more familiar with the world of Apple will surely remember that even shortly before the release of the iPhone 4 an unwise employee of the Cupertino company apparently left the new device unattended, losing it.
Here we go again: even the iPhone 5 starts its presence in the world with a loss, this time at the Mexican place “Cava22.”
The incident should have occurred last July 22; after noticing the absence of the iPhone 5, the employee reportedly alerted the company and police.
Thanks to a device in the phone, Apple was able to locate the missing iPhone, reaching a private residence. Here, the police asked the homeowner for permission to enter to conduct a search which, however, proved useless: no trace of the prototype.

If there were already many doubts regarding the “coincidence” of the new loss of a smartphone not yet known to the public, today new pieces are added, making even the least interested observer doubt more.
Some journalists working for magazines and newspapers in San Francisco have questioned the local police to learn the real circumstances of the event and obtain some credible and firsthand statements.
Well, according to these sources, the police denied having received a report or notification of a loss of the iPhone 5 by Apple or its employees.
The circumstance of the search was also dismissed, especially since it seems the police do not know any names of Apple employees, so it would have been impossible to initiate such procedures without knowing on whose behalf they were acting.
To conclude, it is not clear by whom the rumor about the loss of the iPhone 5 prototype was started: Apple says nothing, the police do not confirm, and no real images or testimonies of the event have surfaced online.
