HTC Desire will have Gingerbread, HTC’s word

A sigh of relief for HTC Desire users: Gingerbread will be implemented, and therefore the company will continue to develop operating system updates, despite previous statements.

Just yesterday, some rather unpleasant news circulated among Android users, specifically HTC Desire owners: on the HTC Facebook page, it was written that the company would not release the Gingerbread (Android 2.3) update for the HTC Desire.
A decision that, apparently, was dictated by the fact that the hardware characteristics of Desire smartphones would not allow optimal integration of the HTC Sense product with Gingerbread. The memory would not be entirely adequate for the space requirements of HTC Sense, HTC’s proprietary service which is currently missing on the Desire but is instead included by default on more recent HTC smartphones.
Reading this official communication from HTC sparked many protests, especially from those who had impatiently awaited the beginning of summer to proceed with the much-desired update, which was rumored to be released a few weeks prior.
Until a few hours ago, therefore, the switch from Froyo to Gingerbread seemed entirely impossible; not surprisingly, the wave of protests and disappointment spread very quickly, especially on social networks.
This prompted HTC to review its positions, officially announcing through a new communication, again via its official Facebook page, that the company would work to provide Gingerbread to Desire owners as well.
No details were released regarding a possible release date, but the genuine dialogue the company maintained with its users, leading HTC to reconsider the issue, is certainly appreciable (and always desirable).
We will return to discuss this topic as soon as a release date for Gingerbread for HTC Desire is officially announced.
