A very strong marketing move by HP which decided to bring the price of the HP TouchPad down to just 100 dollars. Almost not even a cellphone costs that little.
Buying a tablet without spending a fortune? From today it is possible in the United States, as the company HP has decided to apply a large discount to the price of the HP TouchPad, the device that could have taken some users away from the much more established Apple’s iPad, the undisputed pioneer of the category and market leader.
The news is really surprising, considering it has only been a few weeks since the release of the HP TouchPad: on sale since July 1st, it seems impossible that it is undergoing such a price reduction, dropped to just 99.99 dollars from the starting price of about 300 dollars more.
No functionality problems, no manufacturing defects: the decision came after HP’s announcement to focus on software, shelving the hardware side.
Selling off the tablet is a very strong signal considering that, nowadays, not even the cheapest manufacturer can offer a basic tablet at this price easily. Let alone a TouchPad on which so much has been invested!
However, the company’s choice is to quickly clear the stock by putting them on the market and trying to sell them within a short period.
Thus, the 16 GB model has been on sale in the United States for a few hours at 99.99 dollars, while the 32 GB one dropped to 149.99 dollars. Excellent results achieved: sales have surged and a team called “Touchdroid” has also formed aiming to create an Android port precisely on the HP TouchPad.
No price changes, however, in the rest of the world: Europe and Italy in particular continue to sell the tablet at full price, although it is not known if the decision will reach distributors in our country in the coming hours or not.
If not, on one hand it would be a too strong inconsistency and unfair treatment between different markets; on the other hand, the company will already have to face the anger of all those American customers who perhaps only last weekend paid a very different amount from the current 99.99 dollars for purchasing the TouchPad.
We will promptly inform you in case of price changes also in Europe.
