Microsoft had to disable “Hey Cortana” on Android because of a conflict with Google Now.
Just a few weeks ago, Microsoft announced the availability of Cortana, its voice assistant, also for Android and iOS.
The launch of the relative app initially took place only in the United States and China, with a future expansion to terminals in the rest of the world, starting with Europe.
However, some difficulties are beginning to emerge that could perhaps delay its arrival on our devices.
It has indeed been learned in recent hours that a particular function of Cortana has already been disabled on Android terminals: it is the “Hey Cortana” option, useful for activating the assistant with your voice alone.
Consider moments when you cannot use your hands on your smartphone but need a phone number, to make a call, or to search for information: Hey Cortana is useful precisely in these situations.
Microsoft, however, has disabled this specific functionality on Android because it was realized that Hey Cortana conflicts with Google Now.
The details of the criticality reported by users are not yet known, but the solution adopted by Microsoft is official, as a statement from a staff member working on Cortana was released on the VentureBeat website.
It was therefore explained that the decision was made to send a specific update to disable Hey Cortana, in order to work on a prompt resolution of the problem.
Further developments on the matter are therefore expected in the coming weeks.
