Google TV is what can be defined as the television of the future: television and web programs altogether, fully integrated with each other. The project is being realized in partnership with Google along with Intel, Sony, and Logitech.
The first Google TV devices are expected to hit the market by the end of 2010, most likely in the United States only. An experiment that is mobilizing the energies of Big G, Sony, Logitech, and Intel to integrate forms of communication that have until now been mostly disconnected or, at best, more or less complementary. As explained from Mountain View, “The world of TV is a simplified representation of what happens on the web. Users are forced to choose between the web or TV. We want to unite the two experiences”.
Google TV will be presented in two forms: accessible via a box or already integrated into certain televisions. As easily foreseeable, Google TV will be based on the Android operating system, will use the Chrome browser for navigation, and will feature the integration of YouTube Leanback. Therefore, directly on home TV, anyone will be able to perform web searches that will return both results found on the network and suggestions for television programs compatible with the query used.
The Google TV sets will be built by Sony, will run on an Intel microprocessor, and will be used via a special Logitech remote control. However, the possibility of making Google TV and smartphones dialogue harmoniously is not excluded.
It is easy to imagine that Google TV, in addition to attempting to break through as a new entertainment medium, will undoubtedly also be a launchpad for new and broader forms of advertising collection by Google.
