For those who fear wedding preparation stress, Google offers the new Google for Wedding service, a planning tool to leave nothing to chance.
Google for Wedding is the new Google service dedicated to those organizing their wedding: a sort of virtual wedding planner or, more realistically, an interactive, ever-evolving agenda.
Using Google for Wedding is very simple: just access the service and start, if you wish, by building a microsite dedicated to your online wedding. These pages can tell the couple’s story, can be visited by friends and family, and function as a virtual meeting point for those who want to communicate with the betrothed.
With the Picnik tool, you can edit photos and create e-cards, perhaps even the invitation to the wedding ceremony to send to those guests who are less concerned with formalities.
With the aid of Google Docs, you can then compile the guest list, keep track of expenses for the restaurant, favors, and flowers, and plan important appointments you don’t want to forget, to keep everything under control with a single click.
Finally, Google for Wedding suggests leveraging the space provided by Picasa to create a wedding album, perhaps to share and link to attendees to leave them with a memento of that day.
To launch Google for Weddings, Mountain View has decided to promote a contest: those who organize their wedding within the year will compete for a prize of considerable value. Up for grabs is the entire organization of the wedding by Michelle Rago, a renowned wedding planner, and a prize of $25,000. The wedding will be virtual and online, but the prize is very real.
