Gingerbread on HTC Desire: update coming soon

Good news for those using an HTC Desire: Gingerbread is coming with a custom-made update for these devices.
We discussed this a few days ago: after an initial announcement from HTC stating that Gingerbread would never run on the Desire line models, the company has decided to reconsider to meet the needs of numerous unhappy and disappointed users.
The initial decision by HTC was based on a purely technical reason: the Desire models have characteristics that do not allow HTC Sense to function as on other models.
However, HTC – demonstrating genuine interest in its community – has developed features tailored for the Desire, so the update to Gingerbread will soon be available.
Today’s news concerns the presumed release date: HTC itself announced via its official Facebook page that testing has gone well and thus the update could be released by the end of July.
Certainly, something will be sacrificed, precisely for the aforementioned technical reasons: while it is not yet known how or if the “Sense” issue has been resolved, it is already known that some applications will initially be removed from the new release. No valuable losses: these apps can be downloaded later via the Android Market. Evidently, these apps likely only impact the download and update phase, not afterwards.
Another piece of news for HTC today relates to bootloaders: the company has assured that it will soon be able to unlock them, making it possible to install custom ROMs more easily in the immediate future. This will likely happen within the first half of August.
