Firefox OS: Mozilla’s Operating System is Coming

Mozilla enters the operating systems sector and announces the upcoming release of Firefox OS: here are the first rumors.

There’s an air of innovation at Mozilla , this time concerning not the traditional web browser sector, but rather the operating systems market.
The foundation has indeed announced that the new “Firefox OS“, the red fox’s operating system, is about to be released.
It will be a product specifically for mobile devices, and thus the new OS will enter the market currently led by Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android, without forgetting Microsoft’s more recent Windows Phone.
A titans’ challenge, second only to the race that for years dominated discussions about web browsers and which a few months ago began to show Chrome’s overtake, now available also on iPhone and iPad, at the expense of other browsers.

Not much is known yet about Firefox OS, but what appears certain is that its arrival will happen by 2013; moreover, it will be an open source operating system.
It is based on the web standard HTML5, and for the rendering engine, the decision has been made to rely on Gecko.
It seems that the new Firefox OS will be launched on ZTE and TCL Communication Technology smartphones, and as far as Italy is concerned, the distribution will initially be exclusively entrusted to TIM.
Nothing else is known: we must wait for new rumors.
