Faceskin is a new social network entirely made in Italy: it was launched by Claudio Cecchetto who, among the first members, involved Linus, Fiorello, and Jovanotti.
It’s called Faceskin and it’s a new social network born in Italy that is already seeing notable names landing on its pages: from Fiorello to Max Pezzali, up to Jovanotti and Linus from Radio Deejay, Faceskin is mostly being populated by well-known faces.
What is so special about this social network that attracts especially celebrities? Certainly the primary reason for this “migration phenomenon” – think of Fiorello who moved from Twitter to Faceskin – is that at the head of the project to create this new social platform is Claudio Cecchetto.
More than a social network for connecting people, Faceskin aims at social but human search: according to Cecchetto himself, Faceskin was born to help members find information on the web more easily and quickly, thanks to the ability to draw from the shares expressed by ourselves and other members.
This is possible because Faceskin allows users to specify a list of favorite sites: this list will populate a global list made up of all members’ preferences.
Based on this, each search performed can be saved and categorized by topic, so it can be retrieved more easily in the future, benefiting the entire community.
If the foundation of Faceskin seems to be the weblists, one might wonder if these could quickly become the very limit of the social network: how can interaction between people be ensured when the key element of the mechanism is simply a link?
Moreover, with such a product, is it reasonable to think that web users might choose to search for information this way, without first turning to Google?
Google has marked the history of the web in this regard and it’s worth considering that another big social network is entering the field of social search: Facebook is indeed developing a project in this direction.
Certainly, they start from completely different assumptions: if Google works on algorithms and Facebook on a mix of algorithms and shares, Faceskin shifts the focus onto the human being.
A completely new approach to the web would be needed to establish itself in the social scene, and today the average user doesn’t seem (yet?) to be heading in this direction. In fact, for now, Faceskin is a good social network but perhaps too niche.
However, it’s too early to draw conclusions: the Faceskin adventure has just begun.
