New rumors about the launch of the Facebook smartphone: it seems the release is just a matter of months away.
This is according to the always well-informed Bloomberg, which reports that the social network giant’s smartphone is practically ready, developed in collaboration with HTC.
Last November, here on FullPress, we even anticipated the probable name: HTC Buffy.
While not explicitly mentioned this time, it is true that the project is well underway, with a launch currently anticipated within the first half of 2013.
In reality, according to Bloomberg, the smartphone was already essentially ready for a release in the coming weeks, but it seems that HTC requested more time to perfect the device and make a splash.
The request was granted by Facebook, which, for its part, appears to be developing its own proprietary operating system and applications thanks to a team of engineers poached from Apple.

After all, there’s a clear and decisive positioning in the mobile sector at stake, with projects that need to be high-performing and geared towards monetization: this is the mission that Mark Zuckerberg hinted at during the preliminary stages of Facebook’s IPO.
The objective is therefore squarely in this sector, although it should be noted that there has never been open talk of a branded smartphone project.
Despite the increasingly insistent and detailed rumors, strict secrecy prevails at both Facebook and HTC: nothing has emerged from either company that confirms the circulating voices.
