Dropbox Accounts Breached, Data Online: 7 Million at Risk

Seven million Dropbox accounts are reportedly at risk. What is happening?

Just yesterday, we discussed the theft of images exchanged via Snapchat , and today brings new news regarding cyber attacks, or alleged ones.
It has been reported that, hour by hour, login data for hundreds of Dropbox accounts are appearing online.
The well-known and robust cloud storage service has reportedly been targeted by a group that managed to obtain access credentials for seven million Dropbox accounts.
This is a truly large-scale operation, about which little is yet known.
Meanwhile, the Dropbox team has released statements on the matter, beginning by clarifying and firmly asserting that the leakage of personal data did not originate from Dropbox servers.
It is pointed out that much of the account data was actually stolen from other services and, once obtained, was used to attempt access to Dropbox accounts—using stolen usernames and passwords.
Exactly as with Snapchat, the problem appears to lie in the use of third-party apps.
So, what can be done to avoid such incidents?

The Dropbox team clarifies once again: it is advisable to avoid using the same usernames and passwords for more than one service.
Furthermore, to ensure greater peace of mind and a higher level of security, Dropbox strongly encourages activating a two-step verification process on personal accounts.
