The Commodore brand is making a comeback with the production of the Commodore Pet smartphone.
Great news is coming from across the Ocean regarding a historic brand in the technology sector.
According to what was anticipated by Wired.com, the Commodore brand could soon be back in the spotlight.
The legendary Commodore 64s, the first examples of widely used computers in homes worldwide in the mid-80s, have little to do with this new era that is about to open.
We are talking about the upcoming release of Commodore PET in stores, a smartphone that has been in development for a couple of years.
Next week, the device will appear throughout Europe and will certainly arrive in Italy, especially since two Italians are at the head of the development and production team: Massimo Canigiani and Carlo Scattolini, who also hold the trademark “Commodore Business Machine Limited,” registered in Great Britain.
So what can we expect from the Commodore PET?
It will be a phablet, given the 5.5-inch screen diagonal. The terminal will run on the Android 5.0 operating system and will be distributed in two different versions:
- with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory;
- with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory.
The camera setup will consist of a 13-megapixel main camera and an 8-megapixel secondary camera.
No other details have emerged, other than the observation that – preserving the Commodore name – the Commodore PET will also offer users some of the brand’s historic games, already pre-installed on the device.
As for the price of the Commodore PET, it’s mentioned at around 270/280 euros for the 2 GB RAM version, while it will take about 330 euros for the 3 GB RAM device.
