Chrome 11: Download Ready with Voice Recognition

The novelties of Chrome 11 speak, listen, and translate: this isn’t just a saying, it’s almost reality, as a voice recognition system can now be activated. Let’s find out more about Chrome 11.

Chrome 11, available for download for a few hours now, appears to be introducing a significant enhancement in user interactivity: the browser now features voice dictation. By simply using a microphone, users can dictate words to their PC, which Chrome 11 will automatically translate thanks to Google Translate support. The browser will detect the microphone’s presence and display a dedicated icon in website fields that can be filled in. This is all done automatically.
This is the standout new feature of Chrome 11 (known as “Speech input through HTML”), immediately catching the attention of testers. However, in this initial phase, the functionality—which relies on HTML5 APIs—is guaranteed and implemented only for speaking words in English.
Meanwhile, it’s reported that the stable version of Google Chrome 11 focuses heavily on speed, achieved even through support that leverages 3D CSS GPU acceleration.
Regarding security, just over twenty bugs have been fixed, about 15 of which were classified as “critical.”
Finally, a detail that’s quite in vogue: even the Chrome 11 logo has undergone a minor redesign. The roundness has been replaced by flatter lines. Nothing particularly evident, especially since the usual colors remain unchanged, as can be seen in the accompanying photo.
You can already download Google Chrome 11 from the official website.
