According to the latest survey by SosTariffe.it, offers for using smartphones abroad have improved, being cheaper than a year ago. This represents a cost reduction of over 50%, especially for calls and SMS.
On June 15, 2017, the process that led to the definitive cessation of the surcharges requested by European providers for the use of mobile telephony services outside the national borders of citizens was finally completed. How has this change affected the promotions that providers continue to offer for those traveling outside Italy, perhaps for holidays or short business trips? SosTariffe.it has tried to estimate these changes, publishing the latest study on foreign rates.
Rates and promotions for abroad: costs are decreasing
SosTariffe.it’s analysis was conducted by simulating some trips abroad and analyzing the average costs proposed with the main promotions that providers market on packages or dedicated rates suitable for the hypothesized foreign trips.
According to the findings, the prices of special rates for calling and sending SMS in Europe (which can still be purchased even after the stop of roaming as the user might want to add an additional bundle of calls or SMS to their package used in Italy) have decreased by 49%.
Those traveling in America, in the USA, on the other hand, can enjoy cheaper rates by 14% compared to a year ago. In 2016, to make about ten calls, receive as many (all about 4 minutes long) and send about 15 SMS, one spent around 17 euros; today, it costs 15 euros.
Even in the rest of the world, offers are more advantageous: promotions for abroad are indeed about 53% cheaper, and now calling and sending SMS to a country far from Italy costs about 25 euros compared to 53 euros last year.
The situation of data traffic abroad
If in Europe the stop of roaming and promotions for abroad have made it possible to completely eliminate the surcharge for mobile browsing, even in the USA and in the rest of the world, rates are more advantageous than ever.
To use about 150 MB of data traffic in the USA, it now costs about 24 euros, thanks to dedicated promotions, compared to 43 euros a year ago. This means there has been a price drop of about 45%.
Even in the rest of the world, SosTariffe.it registers a price decrease, which stands at around 41%. Compared to 2016, the cost for 150 MB of data traffic is indeed 43 euros compared to 72 euros in 2016.
