Canon PowerShot G16: price, release, and specifications

The Canon PowerShot G16 is about to arrive in Italy: here’s an overview of its features, price, and release period.

Canon is about to launch some new cameras, including the Canon PowerShot G16, which falls into the prosumer compact category.
The camera features the HS System, comprising a 12.1-megapixel CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 6 image processor.
This results in sharp, clear images even in challenging low-light conditions; shot and processing speeds have also been significantly improved, achieving 41% faster performance compared to the previous PowerShot G15 model.
The lens is very bright (f/1.8-2.8) and it has a 5x optical zoom, with an aperture of f/1.8 at the wide-angle focal length of 28mm and an aperture of f/2.8 at the maximum focal length of 140mm.
This camera also holds a first: it is the first PowerShot G series model to feature wireless connectivity, making image and video sharing (in Full HD, 1920 x 1080 pixels, 60fps, with stereo audio) intuitive and fast. Also noteworthy is Intelligent IS with 5-axis video stabilization.

Regarding the camera’s control modes and handling, highlights include the practical front dial, a set of manual controls, and monitoring via the bright 3-inch (7.5 cm diagonal) LCD screen, near which an optical viewfinder is also visible.
Images can also be processed in RAW format.
The recommended retail price for the Canon PowerShot G16 is 604 euros, including VAT.
The release is scheduled for the end of September, and a range of accessories to enhance the camera’s user experience will also be available for sale at the same time.
