BlackBerry Venice, which could be the first BlackBerry device with the Android operating system, is reportedly almost ready.
A BlackBerry in the traditional, historic sense, but “enhanced” by an interesting innovation: the Android operating system.
There is renewed insistence in discussing such a device, thanks to a preview released by an individual who has consistently provided rather reliable leaks over the years.
Evan Blass, better known in the industry as @evleaks from the eponymous Twitter account, has indeed published a photo of a BlackBerry smartphone slated for market release.
This would be the BlackBerry Venice, expected to launch in November.
The image suggests the device will feature the classic physical QWERTY keyboard, though it will likely be a slide-out mechanism. This would allow ample space for its 5.4-inch display: a QHD screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels.
Other revealed technical details include the processor – a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 – and 3 GB of RAM.
The image posted by Evan Blass is noteworthy as it highlights the icons on the device’s home screen. From these details, one could infer that the BlackBerry Venice will be a terminal running the Android operating system.
This news certainly warrants attention and also suggests a potential worldwide commercialization of the device by the end of 2015 or, at the latest, by the first quarter of 2016.
According to the aforementioned previews by Evan Blass, the official debut might initially be exclusive to the United States, before expanding elsewhere.
It must be stressed again that this information is not official, as the company has not issued any communication: there have been neither denials nor confirmations.
These are merely rumors and leaks from a source that, in the past, has consistently proven to be very well-informed and therefore “trustworthy”.
