News in the tablet sector: Archos has announced the release of its new Archos GamePad, specifically suited for gaming. The price is low: it will be a very competitive tablet.
In a sector that has exploded in a short time and is constantly evolving, such as that of tablets, here comes a new device with a special characteristic: it is designed for gaming.
It is called Archos GamePad and it almost looks like a portable game console, yet it has all the credentials to be properly defined as a “tablet”, equipped with the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.
Manual controls have been placed on both sides of the screen: we are truly in the presence of a classic – but evolved – controller accessory for gaming.
The processor is a 1.5 GHz dual-core, paired with a quad-core Mali 400 MP GPU.
Little is yet known about the screen, other than that it is a 7-inch display: however, the resolution and main features are not known.
The tablet is equipped with a connection cable to allow it to communicate with the TV, in order to bring the gaming experience to the “large scale”.
Regarding connectivity, it should be noted that there is no 3G module: therefore, it will only be possible to use the Archos GamePad on the go by leveraging the Wi-Fi network.
The internal memory is 8GB but can be expanded thanks to microSD cards up to 64 GB.
The price of the Archos GamePad is decidedly very attractive: the manufacturing company has announced that it will remain below 150 euros. An affordable price for a product that, although niche and designed for gamers, could also become a useful alternative for other types of users with little budget available.
Finally, the release of this tablet will take place during the month of October.
