Sony Ericsson, according to unconfirmed rumors (but not officially denied), is critically evaluating the adoption of Windows Phone 7 for its next series of Xperia terminals.
What makes Sony Ericsson hesitate is a crucial issue: the WP7 interface, which is practically static and identical regardless of the smartphone brand.
This means that by choosing Windows Phone 7, manufacturers currently have no way to customize the user interface, making the product excessively and inevitably standardized, to the detriment of immediate user recognition.
Sony Ericsson, on the other hand, pays great attention to these “details” (which, as you’ll agree, are by no means minor aspects), given the positive experience reported with Android-based terminals.
If all manufacturers started presenting the same interface, competition would shift solely to price or perhaps the external appearance of the device, making the user experience flat.
At this point, the release of the Xperia X7 with Windows Phone 7 appears highly improbable: Sony Ericsson will most likely continue on the more certain and customizable path offered by Android.
