Three days after the activation of the acquisition procedure of theurl simplified and personal on Facebook, here come the first estimates of user feedback.
Wake-up call at 6 AM on June 13th: a large number of Facebook users stormed the social network to claim their desired URL address, whether it was composed of a first and last name or a nickname. Early rumors, revealed by Mashable, speak of unthinkable numbers: in the first three minutes alone, 200,000 URLs were permanently registered under the new system. In less than 24 hours, Facebook’s counter reached over 3 million assigned URLs. Despite the massive influx of users, there were no issues with Facebook’s servers, likely due to the choice of a non-working day for introducing this new feature. There were instances of identity theft, pranks, and errors; the latter can only be rectified by Facebook upon specific report, but this applies only to registered trademarks or those of particular importance. Not everyone, however, had the opportunity to choose the vanity URLs, as the entire operation has been nicknamed: at the moment, it has only been allowed for users with at least 1000 friends as of May 31st; for everyone else, it will take a couple more weeks to try and grab a personalized URL, assuming no one was faster, like Mike Ciabatta who has been showcasing his new address since Saturday: facebook.com/berlusconi.
