Farewell to Rajeev Motwani, Google mentor

Rajeev Motwani tragically died at his home in California. A highly respected academic, he lent his expertise and insights to the founding of Google.

The history of the giants of IT and innovation is dotted with people, often very young, whose insights have revolutionized previous system arrangements or created entirely new worlds and societies until then unprecedented.
Rajeev Motwani was one of these illustrious minds, the creator of the PageRank algorithm that, years ago, allowed Google to begin its climb to conquer the web.
Larry Page e Sergey Brin, the founders of the world’s most used search engine, began working on their pioneering project while still at university and specifically with the consultancy of Rajeev Motwani. A brilliant figure and highly respected academic professor, Motwani continued to collaborate with Google as an informal advisor, lending his ideas and experience also to other giants, such as PayPal o Sequoia Capital.
Over the weekend, Rajeev Motwani’s body was found in the pool of his home in Atherton, California; death was due to drowning, likely following a domestic accident. It is being reported that Professor Motwani did not know how to swim; the unfortunate event thus would have caused his tragic end.
The news of the discovery of Rajeev Motwani’s lifeless body deeply shook the Silicon Valley. Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google, remembered him with emotion: “I want him to be remembered in the best way. It’s truly a rare combination to have someone who is both so intelligent and such a good person nearby.“.
In many companies in the sector, today considered giants, there is the genius of Rajeev Motwani: innovator, mentor, poet of computer science.
