Sony today further strengthened its line of compact, extended-zoom travel cameras with the introduction of the DSC-HX99 e DSC-HX95.
Designed for those who want a discreet camera to take everywhere, the new models feature the world’s smallest camera body and offer a truly versatile focal length, covering everything from 24mm wide-angle to 720mm super-telephoto. In addition to exceptional 4K video recordingii, the core of both models is the powerful BIONZ X image processor combined with an LSI acquisition chip, which enables high-speed continuous shooting at up to 10 fps with a buffer limit of 155 images. Furthermore, the new models boast an autofocus speed of 0.09 seconds[vi]. New features include Eye AF, RAW image recording, Touch Focus/Touch Shutteriii functionality, and location data acquisition[vii] via Bluetooth.

The impressive zoom magnification factor offered by the HX99 e HX95 models is the ideal solution for shooting situations such as nature and travel, as well as for capturing everyday life moments. Image stabilization is controlled by the Optical SteadyShot system, which effectively cancels out the blur caused by vibrations often associated with handheld and telephoto shots. The models also integrate the Zoom Assist function, which temporarily widens the frame to view a larger area when shooting a subject with the telephoto lens.
Processing power
The HX99 e HX95 models are capable of capturing 4K video footage with full pixel readout and no pixel binning, for wonderful detail rendering and significant reduction of moiré and distortion effects. It is also possible to capture fast-moving subjects with high frame rate HD recording up to 100 fps, to produce amazing slow-motion sequences during editing.
Perfect shots often happen suddenly, so photographers must be able to rely on their camera’s responsiveness. With an autofocus speed of just 0.09 seconds from the Fast Intelligent AF systemvi, an optimized BIONZ X processor, and the LSI acquisition chip, the HX99 e HX95 are a perfect solution, offering high-speed continuous shooting up to 10 fps (buffer limit of 155 images)v. For perfectly focused portraits, the new models inherit the acclaimed Eye AF technology from α cameras, and for those who prefer to perfect their shots with editing software, both offer the ability to shoot in RAW format. And what if the light is low? With a maximum ISO6400[xi], there is nothing to worry about.
Intuitive and simple operation
Taking user feedback from the cameras in the HX90 series, Sony introduced Touch Focus and Touch Shutter functions in the HX99 model, allowing users to select and shoot subjects directly from the screen and adjust focus via the Touch Pad while framing the scene through the retractable OLED Tru-Finder. For those who want complete control over settings, the control ring on the HX99 can be customized with functions such as manual focus or progressive zoom. Both the HX99 and the HX95 offer My Menu, a feature that allows up to 30 menu items to be customized and recalled instantly.
The 180° tilting screen facilitates framing for selfies and group photos, while an improved grip ensures a firm hold and greater stability during shots or recordings. The Bluetooth location data acquisition function can collect and record location information from a mobile devicevii, while Proxy recording allows images and videos to be transferred to a smartphone or uploaded to websites for quick sharing.
