Android N unveiled for developers

Google has announced the availability of Android N for developers. The news was expected in May but Big G played it early.

Android N, the new release of the operating system from Google, is starting to show its face. Surprisingly, compared to expectations that gave May for its release, Android N is available to developers who can get acquainted with what will be the new version of the Mobile Operating System from Big G.

You won’t have to wait for the worldwide mobile OS Conference of Google on May 18, though there will be no shortage of news on that occasion. The preview of Android N was requested in advance by the development team to obtain a higher number of feedback in order to release a better operating system. Currently, Google plans five previews before the final release scheduled for the second half of this year.

“Starting today,” the web reads, “you can update your Android device [Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, General Mobile 4G (Android One), Nexus Player, Nexus 9 and Pixel C devices] for the preview N via OTA (by visiting g.CO/androidbeta). We will send the latest previews directly to your phone! (You can read more about the APIs and features of this previewhere, and you can also download this previewhere)”

Google emphasizes that this version is much more than a work in progress. BIG G will probably add some features over time, but for now, we’re only talking about some of the highlights of this new release.

Among the new features of Android Nthere are improvements on notifications and the use of “direct reply notifications”, for example. Translated in simple terms. developers can now allow their users to respond to incoming notifications directly from the notification shade. Developers can also now group notifications from the same application.

For the first time, Android N will also offer a split-screen view. Applications that support this will be able to run side-by-side with other applications on both tablets and phones (and developers can set the minimum allowable sizes for their applications). Multi-window support has long been requested by users, especially on tablets. In addition to a basic side-by-side mode, Android N will also offer a picture-in-picture mode so that video applications can be displayed in a corner on Android TV.

The update is available for Google Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus Player, Nexus 9 and Pixel C devices. The Nexus 5 is not on the list. Once the device is updated, Google will push new updates to the device whenever they are released.
