Google Drive: 2 GB extra free for Safer Internet Day 2016, how to get them

Google has decided to give away an extra 2 GB of free space on Google Drive to those who secure their profile.

Google is stepping in for the security of its users, embracing the initiative of Safer Internet Day 2016, organized by the competent European Commission.
This year too, it has been decided to hold today – Tuesday, February 9, 2016 – a day entirely dedicated to the security of personal data and online activities.
Google has therefore announced that, in order to encourage its subscribers to take the aforementioned topic seriously, it will give away 2 GB of free cloud space on Google Drive.
The gift will be “bestowed” upon all those who update their account, with specific reference to the section dedicated to security checks.
Essentially, it will involve updating and indicating – if you have never done so before – all information related to account recovery.
You will therefore need to indicate – or refresh – an alternative email address for recovering your Google account; set up a secret question; finally, provide an active and in-use mobile number.
This last point, in particular, is a detail that Google is strongly encouraging users to provide and use, in order to send a recovery code in case of a compromised or breached account, or due to the “simple” loss of a password.
In this way, in case of an attempted account breach, it will be more difficult for malicious actors to proceed, as a two-step validation will be required: greater protection that Google recommends.

Naturally, at the core of the entire mechanism, remains the great attention to be paid to password creation: it is of fundamental importance to choose one that is not simple or trivial.
It is also strongly recommended not to use the same password for multiple services.
The procedure for carrying out the security check is therefore very simple, as well as quick: it will take no more than one or two minutes.
To obtain the extra 2 GB of free space on Google Drive, you will simply need to proceed as already described, taking care to do so by February 17, 2016.
