Apple has filed a patent for a smart ring

Apple files a new patent: it’s about the project for a smart ring. What to expect?

Apple continues its study of new wearable devices and, according to the latest updates arriving from across the ocean, the next step could be the creation of a smart ring.
It is learned that the Cupertino company has recently filed a patent relating precisely to an “intelligent” and interactive ring.
The news surfaced as the image related to the object was published on the website of the US Patent & Trademark Office, the competent US office for patents.
The new device to be worn on the finger would consist of a small display, a camera, a micro-microphone, an alert system to signal notifications, and finally a motion sensor.
As usual, full operation requires “dialogue” and interaction with an iPhone or an iPad.
Nothing else is known about this potential new device, and it is also appropriate to make some specific and further explanations.
The fact that a company files a patent does not automatically mean that the subject of the patent will be a real and future release. It has happened many times in the past that some patents have not seen “complete form”, at least from a commercial point of view.
Sometimes they are indeed just “ideas” that can be applied in similar forms to other products; in other cases, however, they remain mere projects without any outlet at the production and sales level, but they still represent an important technological asset for companies, both regarding the development of other products and sometimes for what such know-how can entail, for example, in company sales.
This is certainly not the case for Apple – or at least, it doesn’t appear to be, at the current state – so more probably the smart ring patent could lead to some actual device, although it’s not yet known if it will exactly match the forms and characteristics filed.

It should also be considered that a “smart” ring would not even be an absolute novelty in the sector, as the existence of Ring Zero can already be noted.
The more “informed” will remember that the wearable ring was financed thanks to a fundraising campaign successfully carried out through the Kickstarter platform. The result of this project was then actually presented at CES in Los Angeles.
Therefore, Apple’s smart ring patent is undoubtedly an interesting project, but perhaps it is premature to even try to understand what its short-term destiny will be.
