At Facebook’s headquarters, it appears new projects related to chat messaging are in the works.
Contrary to the social network’s policy, which has until now been based on creating profiles consisting of first and last names, a shift in direction has been observed in recent weeks, with an opening to profiles using pseudonyms.
Another interesting piece of news emerging today seems to further lean towards anonymity on Facebook.
According to reports from the New York Times, citing anonymous sources, the social network’s developers are preparing to release an official app for exchanging anonymous messages via Facebook.
The project is believed to have been underway for at least a year, with the collaboration of Josh Miller, a product manager who joined Facebook from Branch labs, a company acquired by the social network giant some time ago.
Naturally, clear details on the actual functioning of this app under study are lacking, but it is thought it could be an alternative to the already known Whisper or Secret.
It is also speculated that such a solution could be useful in the event of the upcoming launch of specific thematic sections on Facebook. It seems that Mark Zuckerberg’s team will soon inaugurate virtual spaces for seeking discussion and advice on health and wellness topics. In this context, when discussing very personal and sensitive issues, the use of pseudonyms would make sense without fundamentally altering Facebook’s long-standing policy.
