Apple eliminates iPod Classic from its official store: an outdated version that will no longer be available for purchase.
Along with the Apple news of the past few days, comes the confirmation that a product will no longer be sold by the Cupertino company.
It has indeed been decided to remove the “old” iPod, specifically the classic version with a non-touch screen, from the Apple Store.
The reasons for this decision can be attributed to several factors: perhaps a device of this kind is no longer aligned with the minimum hardware requirements desired by potential buyers – lacking a responsive touch screen – or more likely, due to the proliferation of music streaming services, the fact remains that Apple seems intent on abandoning this path.
iPod has a glorious 13-year history behind it, having been one of Apple’s most successful products.
What’s more, the iPod effectively opened up a new global market and revolutionized the music world in a way no other device had managed to do until that point.
However, the advancement of services like Spotify and Deezer – to name just a couple – has effectively allowed everyone to listen to their music or choose from a vast catalog using only their smartphone, eliminating the need to carry an additional device solely for music playback.
The announcement of the iPod’s discontinuation was made during the Keynote on September 9th, and indeed, as soon as the Apple event concluded, the product was removed from the Apple online store, becoming unavailable.
Currently, it is still possible to purchase the iPod Touch, iPod Nano, and iPod Shuffle.
