Facebook has announced a press conference scheduled for Thursday, June 20th: the world’s most renowned social network will unveil news related to a new product.
Given this premise, rumors have been circulating loudly and clearly, with insiders speculating that Facebook‘s near future will include a news reader.
This would be the star of the upcoming event, arriving precisely at a time when Google has decided to discontinue its popular Google Reader, which will be “shut down” and thus rendered completely unusable on July 1st.
A timing that leaves little room to believe it’s a mere coincidence.
In this way, Facebook would fill a gap in its offerings, allowing its users to always have an aggregator of news, blogs, and various sources at their disposal.
The “Facebook news reader” hypothesis surfaced when a developer – Tom Waddington – discovered code capable of reading RSS Feeds within the Graph API: hence the idea that work is underway on an aggregation project in the Menlo Park labs.

At this point, we can only await official announcements, as the invitation to the presentation event provided no clues to understand whether the hypotheses are correct or not.
The invitation card received by journalists invited to the press presentation reads only: “A small team has been working on a big idea. Join us for coffee and learn about a new product“.
We will know more in the coming days.
