Canon has introduced the EOS 60Da, a new camera specifically designed for astrophotography, which is about to be launched on the market.
With the EOS 60Da, users can capture the most stunning images by pointing the lens at diffuse nebulae. This is made possible by a new modified filter that ensures three times more transparency than the Hα range, providing greater fidelity to the red coloration caused by the ionization of hydrogen, which is characteristic of diffuse nebulae.
Regarding the technical features of this camera, we can observe the presence of an 18-megapixel CMOS sensor, supported by the 14-bit DIGIC 4 image processor.
The sensitivity reaches 6,400 ISO (expandable up to 12,800 ISO), enabling sharp and clear photos.
All interchangeable compatible lenses are supported. As a DSLR belonging to the EOS system, it is possible to utilize lenses already owned, ranging from 8mm to 800mm, which are also easily available.
The EOS Utility software will provide additional support for processing images – including videos – directly from the camera. This is also possible thanks to the variable-angle screen mounted on the camera body: a 3-inch LCD display with a 7.7 cm diagonal and a resolution of 1,040,000 dots.
This camera, ideal for astrophotography, will be available from the end of April 2012. Regarding the price of the Canon EOS 60Da, it will be 1422 euros. This price refers to the camera body only; lenses will be available separately.
