Toshiba announces its new SD memory card is coming soon to market. It’s called Flash Air and it’s bidirectional wi-fi. Here are its price and features.

IFA 2011 in Berlin also brings news from Toshiba , which has unveiled a brand new SD memory card with a noteworthy feature: FlashAir, as it’s called, is a bidirectional wi-fi memory card.
Defaulted to wireless mode, it can both send and receive data from other memory cards, tablets, digital cameras, PCs, and, more generally, from any device equipped with WiFi 802.11 b/g/n technology.
Toshiba was keen to specify that this new card – which will be produced with a minimum capacity of 8GB – will consume less power compared to other existing cards of this type.
In fact, it’s already possible to find something similar on the market, specifically memory cards branded “Eye-Fi“, which, however, are not bidirectional, allowing only data transmission and not reception.
Toshiba’s FlashAir instead leverages device connection to the same network and can therefore operate without an access point or hotspot: a significant leap forward compared to existing Eye-Fi cards.
The sale of Toshiba’s FlashAir is expected to start as early as February 2012, and regarding the price, the wi-fi SD memory card will most likely cost around 90 euros.
