Google buys G.co, new domain

G.co: this is the new domain purchased by Google. The Mountain View galaxy is expanding more and more to bring all services together and make them more streamlined.

Google announces the acquisition of a new domain: it’s called “G.co” and we will have to learn to recognize it.
The goal of the web giant is precisely this: to make the domain easy to remember, thus lightening the web experience (and possibly always linking it back to one of the many products and services offered by Google).
At the moment the domain “G.co” does not seem to have useful “fallouts” for users, meaning that at least initially it will only be the Google staff using this new extension.
It is unknown if in the future the new domain will be adopted for any particular service, but at present what is certain is that the URL shortening service will continue to be linked to the extension Goo.gl, so G.co will in no way replace this utility.
However, probably the most juicy detail of the news regarding this acquisition at this time is another: regardless of the question “what will it be used for?“, a question is strongly echoed these hours: “How much did Google pay to acquire the G.co domain?“.
A detail not to be overlooked: single-letter domains on the market are very valuable, as this is not a common practice.
Although no information has leaked regarding the amount paid, a tentative indication – though uncertain but coming from an expert in the field – was suggested by Juan Diego Calle, the manager responsible for domains with the “.co” extension. In his opinion, such an acquisition could be around one million dollars.
Meanwhile, trying to type into the address bar http://g.com leads to a page stating that the domain is owned by Google and that it can be confirmed that links so formed are and will always be related to a Google product or service.
