Just in time for Christmas gifts, a new device specifically designed for children is arriving on the shelves of Italian stores.
It is a real smartphone, based on the Android operating system. Its name is « Mio Phone » and it was presented by Gruppo Lisciani, a company that bases its business on products – games, books, puzzles, etc. – of a playful yet instructive nature.
Mio Phone allows you to use a fully functional smartphone but « adapt » it to how a child might use it, offering multimedia content suitable for younger ones. Naturally, the issue of security was carefully handled by the project developers, as much has been done on the parental control front.
In fact, security filters for internet browsing are available, as well as control systems for applications, phone calls, and SMS messages.
A truly significant feature is the geolocation system integrated into the device: this way, parents will always be able to know where the child (or rather, the child’s smartphone) is.
Regarding the purely technical specifications, as already mentioned, Mio Phone runs on Android and its core is a Quad Core processor. The RAM is 1 GB while the internal memory available is 8 GB, potentially expandable via microSD, as there is a dedicated slot.
The display is 5 inches and there are two cameras available: the main one is 5 megapixels, while the secondary one is 2 megapixels.
The 2100 mAh battery completes the package.
There are then two peculiar aspects to highlight: first of all, the inclusion of special earpieces, included in the sales package.
These are not classic earphones but an accessory that is actually absolutely essential for using the device as a simple phone.
Without the earpieces, it will not be possible to make or receive calls. The reason is simple: the idea was to minimize the child’s exposure to any smartphone overheating by not bringing it close to the child’s ear.
Another feature is the inclusion of over 70 pre-installed games on Mio Phone: these are games and applications specifically for children, even of preschool age, in order to provide young users only with content suitable for their age and developmental stage.
The price of Mio Phone is 144.99 euros, available starting today in red or blue colors.
