It seems Google is about to launch YouTube Kids, the “tube” designed exclusively for children.
Google is reportedly preparing to launch a new thematic area dedicated to videos. There is talk of a forthcoming launch for the project named “Youtube Kids”.
According to the news released by “USA Today”, the new app YouTube Kids, designed entirely for children, will be released on Google Play Store on February 23rd.
Initially, the app will be available exclusively for Android, then it will likely be released for other development platforms and operating systems as well.
YouTube Kids will host videos for children and, rather than being a tool used under parental supervision, it is intended to be an app directly aimed at young children.
It’s no coincidence that the structure and design will be extremely simple yet engaging, with a clean and essential interface. It seems that there will be very few icons, arranged in minimal squares with particularly large icons, so they can be easily identified and used by children.
There will also be few sections, mainly covering music videos, children’s shows, fun yet educational activities, and little else.
Of course, everything is complemented by an internal search engine, allowing users to select videos of direct interest without necessarily having to navigate through categories. This search engine will also be automatically equipped with filters, so that inappropriate terms cannot be searched for and will not generate any results.
While everything is designed for direct use by children, parents will still have ways to monitor their children’s activity. Among the settings, there will be specific options for setting passwords and a timer. This way, mom and dad can decide how long the child can use the app, after which it will stop working.
To restart it, the password set by the parents will need to be entered.
YouTube’s staff is thus proposing a practical and specifically dedicated solution for the youngest users to prevent children from encountering inappropriate content on YouTube.
