YouTube is enriching its features and capabilities, dedicating part of its resources to a new sector: gaming.
YouTube Gaming activities are officially kicking off today, a new platform designed to enable video game streaming.
The functionality is very simple and intuitive: you can start streaming a gaming session at any time, with no prior need to “book” the platform itself.
At the end of the session, moreover, the video can be published like any other content on YouTube, so it can be watched and rewatched in the future.
Naturally, before going live, you can also perform the usual editing work on the material.
YouTube Gaming will have an internal search system to select video game streams of interest, but on a broader structural level, it will still be organized by game type.
Furthermore, there will be thematic sections dedicated to individual titles, and – at least for its global debut – around 25,000 pages will already be available.
A number destined to rise, and probably quickly, given that Google is thus entering a niche market consisting of vibrant and very active enthusiasts.
We must consider the main competitor in this specific arena: Twitch, the colossus that currently holds a de facto monopoly.
It’s no coincidence that Google attempted to acquire Twitch some time ago, a deal that fell through because Amazon snatched the deal from the Mountain View giant.
YouTube Gaming therefore appears to be the perfect counter-move to establish itself in the same field, aiming for high resolutions and the launch of a specific application compatible with both iOS and Android devices.
