UK: Traffic to Retailer Websites Increasingly Social

Traffic to online retailer websites from social networks is steadily increasing in the UK. Compared to last year, the growth is 13%, according to Experian Hitwise, a British company specializing in analysis and surveys.

On average, traffic from social networks for a British website accounts for 11.6%.

Facebook ranks as second traffic source in the UK
Among the most representative social networks (Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube), Facebook accounts for 55% of traffic and positions itself as the best social network traffic source. So far, nothing out of the ordinary; Facebook is certainly the preferred social network for most internet users worldwide. Facebook also represents the second-largest source of traffic for a website, after Google.

The other social networks
If Facebook can celebrate the visits snatched from Google, the other major players in the social world can do the same. Vimeo, Badoo, and Tumblr have doubled their online traffic in the last 12 months.

Music, Video, and Games
Online stores selling music, video, and games are particularly benefiting from social traffic. 11% of the traffic for these sites in the UK comes from social networks, and the music sector has seen a 5% increase compared to the same period last year.
