The Swiss company Swatch has been at the forefront of the watchmaking industry for decades, always colorful, captivating, and accessible to everyone.
Despite being in the business of producing and selling “simple” watches, the company’s management has clearly decided to explore new technologies, turning their attention to users who – in the coming years – will want to buy one of the new devices defined as “wearables.”
Therefore, the launch plan for a smart watch produced by Swatch, named “Touch Zero One,” is ready.
It’s not a full-fledged smartwatch, as it cannot interact with tablets or smartphones; however, it’s a more advanced object than a simple watch, with features that – at least for now – remain to be understood as almost a hybrid.
According to what we understand, the Touch Zero One will be able to monitor certain parameters during physical activity and will be water-resistant.
For this modest debut in the sector, a watch perfect for beach volleyball players has been conceived, but clearly, this does not exclude the possibility of purchase for anyone.
An added function to the Touch Zero One is related to monitoring the player’s spike, thus indicating the force and power of the sporting action.
This first model will be released on the market in May, but it seems other versions are already under study, including a possible edition dedicated to the 2016 Olympics.
It is also rumored that future Swatch advanced models will be equipped with NFC modules, allowing for contactless POS payments; in this case, an agreement with VISA appears to be in the works.

Finally, future versions should also be equipped with Bluetooth technology modules.
Therefore, we are not talking about a smartwatch but an evolution of the traditional Swatch watch, as Nicolas Hayek himself – chairman of the company – made sure to specify: “We don’t want to put a mini-computer on your wrist, other companies already do that.” As for the price of the Swatch Touch Zero One, it will be 150 Swiss francs, which is about 140 euros.
