The 55mm prime lens boasts a wide F1.4 maximum aperture that offers surprising contrast and incredible resolution, characteristic elements of the ZEISS brand. And it does so consistently across the entire frame – from center to corner – and at any aperture setting, even when shooting at the maximum aperture of F1.4. The cutting-edge optical design includes precise AA (Advanced Aspherical) and ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements that reduce spherical and chromatic aberration, plus the ZEISS T* coating that minimizes reflections and ghosting, ensuring the sharpness typical of ZEISS. Furthermore, the Planar design ensures very low distortion.
The wide F1.4 maximum aperture of the FE 50mm F1.4ZA lens offers an ideal level of brightness and speed for shooting indoors in low light, night scenes, and portraits, while the 11-blade circular aperture delivers an extraordinary ON/OFF switch, an AF/MF focus mode switch, and a dust and moisture-resistant design[i], further enhancing its performance.
The new lens also features a Drive SSM (Super Sonic wave Motor) system, allowing for effective matching of focus and speed, precision, and near-absolute silence, characteristics that make it particularly useful for shooting video.
The new FE 50mm F1.4 ZA lens is available from July.
