The RX0, announced at IFA 2017, encapsulates the advanced imaging qualities of Sony’s acclaimed RX line of cameras in a durable body[i] ultra-compact and waterproof body measuring approximately 59 mm x 40.5 mm x 29.8 mm (W x H x D)[ii] and weighing just 110g[iii]. The compact size and all-around versatility of this new camera make it a powerful asset, whether used as a standalone unit or in combination with other RX0 cameras in multi-angle and visual shooting situations. To offer versatile mounting options even in tight spaces, the camera features a completely symmetrical lens position and an image rotation function, further enhancing the machine’s enormous creative potential.
The compact RX0 camera offers two different solutions for multi-camera control and recording: a wired solution for precise and accurate camera control and synchronization, and a more practical and flexible wireless solution.
New Multi-View Shooting Function via Cable for RX10 with Camera Control Box
Sony has announced a new camera control unit (model CCB-WD1), which connects to the RX0[iv] allowing the user to control the unit from a web browser on a PC[v] via a wired IP (Internet Protocol) connection. By converting the control signal to IP, camera settings can be precisely controlled[vi] from a single connected PC, at any location. The wired connection allows synchronization of multiple RX0 cameras and associated control units (up to a maximum of 100 devices[vii] in total), enabling content creators to achieve high-quality cinematic effects like “bullet time” or virtual reality, or to record high-profile events from unique angles.
When multiple control units are used with RX0 cameras, the settings of all connected cameras can be modified simultaneously, and recording can be started/stopped at the same time. In addition, a video synchronization function is available, allowing the frame timing between all connected cameras to be synchronized. This reduces the gap between the various units, facilitating the editing process for creating special effects.
Files can be transferred directly to the connected PC[viii], with the ability to assign and modify file names to optimize content organization in multi-camera applications. In total, up to 100vii RX0 cameras and CCB-WD1 camera control units can be connected for a live-view multi-camera feed. Additionally, through the camera control unit, the user can easily program the settings and shooting modes of all connected cameras.

The new CCB-WD1 camera control unit will be available in February 2018.
Optimized Wireless Multi-View Recording with New PlayMemories™ Mobile App
Sony’s new PlayMemories Mobile version 6.2 app expands multi-camera control capabilities for use with the RX0iv. With the new version of the mobile app, users can connect their smartphone or tablet to up to 50 RX0 cameras via an access point[ix] to control them simultaneously[x]. In addition to the ability (already available) to modify the main camera settings, it will be possible to turn all connected cameras on or off simultaneously[xi] and users will also be able to control and record images based on separate “groups” of cameras.
The new PlayMemories Mobile application for mobile devices version 6.2 will be available starting this month.
