Skype Working on 3D Video Calls

10 years after Skype’s launch, an interesting future prospect is revealed: 3D video calls . Meanwhile, to celebrate, 30 minutes are free.

Skype is celebrating its 10th anniversary and, while consolidating its achievements, it continues to design innovations for the future.
Mark Gillet, corporate vice-president for Skype at Microsoft, has in fact unveiled a concrete plan that will materialize in the coming years.
In an interview with the BBC, he revealed that Skype laboratories have been diligently working to soon offer a 3D video calling service.
After all, the hardware sector is certainly not lacking in solutions for three-dimensional viewing: an increasing number of television and monitor manufacturers, for example, have invested in 3D projects for several years, subsequently releasing 3D color TVs, viewable with special glasses and lately even without.
Therefore, from this perspective, the path, as Gillet himself admits, is in a way already paved. However, as he continues to explain, what is missing are devices capable of capturing 3D images, referring of course to tools accessible to everyone, akin to webcams.

While awaiting the fruits of these studies in the coming years, Skype has decided to celebrate its 10th anniversary by gifting 30 minutes of free Skype WiFi to its users.
To obtain them, users simply need to access the service between August 29th and September 1st to have this special bonus credited, which can then be used within 30 days.
