Skype Conversations Now Possible Without an Account

Skype conversations are now possible even for those without an account, provided it’s via the web: here’s how the new mechanism works.

Starting today, even users without a Skype account can engage in conversations using the popular telephony and communication program, now owned by Microsoft.
The company has introduced a new method to allow anyone to initiate a conversation, including group chats, as a “recipient”.
Within the program, a novel feature has been implemented that allows the generation of a link, which can then be sent to the desired contact.
This way, the recipient only needs to click on the provided link to start interacting – via Skype for web – even if they are not registered with the service.
The procedure is simple: the registered user can click on “+New” to obtain the link. This link can then be shared through various channels:

  • via email;
  • via Twitter;
  • via Facebook;
  • via WhatsApp;
  • via Messenger.

The contact who receives the link is automatically invited to proceed with the conversation, which can be either a group chat or a one-on-one conversation with the link sender.
This is a significant facilitation, as it greatly simplifies conversations with people who do not have a Skype account. Furthermore, this newly activated feature can be easily leveraged for occasional communication needs where, for example, you need to connect with someone relying solely on an internet connection rather than phone credit.
It is important to note that this new feature is currently only in a testing phase in the United States and the United Kingdom, but its rollout to the rest of Europe and the world is expected soon.
