PlayStation 3 Slim Previews: Leaked Images

The first images of the upcoming PlayStation 3 are circulating: it appears slim, judging by its “profile”. Here’s a summary of what has leaked from a very reliable source.

As new product launches approach, there’s always a moment when more or less consistent rumors begin to surface; the same is happening with the PlayStation 3 Slim, aptly nicknamed as such since it appears to be a “leaner” console than previous versions.
Indeed, some images have surfaced online – published by “Technoblog“, a Brazilian technology website – showing a prototype or perhaps even the finished product.
From what can be seen even in the photo accompanying this article, the new PlayStation 3 would feature different materials compared to the past and a slot for housing discs on the left side, with an opening on the upper casing: it seems very likely to be a Blu-Ray drive.
The photos – according to “Technoblog” editors – reportedly come from internal sources at Anatel, the Brazilian agency responsible for evaluating and approving electronic products before they are released in Brazil.

A highly reliable source, it seems, but from which not much else is learned, except that three different versions might be released considering the available memory: a mini 16 GB hard drive is thought of, along with two more powerful models, 250 and 500 GB. However, it cannot be ruled out that the “basic” version might actually be 160 GB instead of 16 GB.
We are in the realm of hypotheses, however: it is more likely that the first confirmations could arrive in mid-August.
The period coincides with the start of the Gamescom 2012 event in Cologne, taking place from August 15th to 19th: this could be the first public showcase for the new PlayStation 3 Slim.
