Paid Postemail: Poste’s email will no longer be free

The Postemail service by Poste Italiane will stop being free: the transition to a paid service has been announced.

What until a few days ago seemed like mere rumors has become confirmed: starting March 31, 2012, the Postemail service will no longer be free but will become a paid service.
All holders of a “@poste.it” email address will therefore need to save their emails and attachments to avoid losing everything, should they not wish to continue using the email inbox on Poste Italiane servers.
We understood that something was brewing in the past few days: on September 12, thousands of Postemail users reported difficulties accessing their personal inbox.
It was thought to be a temporary inconvenience that, in reality, continued for several days, until it became clear that a total system upgrade was underway, transformed into “My Poste“, precisely in view of the transition to a paid model.
The new inbox should also have PEC functionalities, but its annual cost (12 euros) might be reduced for Bancoposta online and Bancoposta click customers: in the latter cases, the service will continue to be free for the first three years. All other users (i.e., not customers of Poste Italiane) will have to pay if they are interested in continuing to use the @poste.it inbox.
In any case, as of now – that is, after the entry into force of the new “My Poste” – it is no longer possible to send emails from the inbox, nor receive anything.
In practice, it is still possible to log in, and it will be until March 31: this way, Poste Italiane is giving all the necessary time to save what might be useful, using the “export” function.
Users are complaining about not being informed in advance of the changes and for only placing a single notice – visible in the new “Bacheca” of “My Poste” – after the fact.
