The Samsung Galaxy Player is Samsung’s answer to the iPod Touch. It will be unveiled in the coming days, during CES 2011.
The CES in Las Vegas has always been the premier showcase for launching new electronic products. Samsung is no exception, as it appears to be preparing for the presentation of the Samsung Galaxy Player, a multimedia player that promises to position itself as an alternative to Apple’s iPod Touch, precisely for CES 2011.
Early previews speak of a 4-inch touchscreen display, a 3.2-megapixel camera on the back of the device, while the other camera (VGA) is understandably on the front.
The heart of the Samsung Galaxy Player runs on Android, specifically version 2.2 Froyo. Therefore, access to the Android Market and Samsung’s marketplace is guaranteed.
Regarding connectivity, the Samsung Galaxy Player is equipped with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0. Three storage options will be available: 8 GB, 16 GB, or 32 GB. There is also a microSD slot, all within a thickness of just under 10 millimeters (9.9 millimeters, to be precise). Finally, the processor will run at 1 GHz.
Will the Samsung Galaxy Player truly be the competitor to the iPod Touch? It’s too early and speculative to say, but there is no doubt that the Galaxy series is carving out its own niche of enthusiasts.
