New Nokia Ringtone Wanted: Nokia Tune Remake Competition Opens

Nokia seeks ideas for its new ringtone: the “Nokia Tune Remake” competition has just been launched, to ensure that the next Nokia ring is instantly recognizable.

While we await the new Nokia smartphones with Windows Phone Mango, the Finnish company is also considering an seemingly frivolous, yet important, aspect: the ringtone.
For years, the famous “Nokia Tune” made Nokia phone rings instantly recognizable; an unmistakable and globally known melody that, today, seeks a successor.
And so, Nokia has launched the “Nokia Tune Remake” competition, open to musicians, creatives, simple music enthusiasts, in short, to anyone who wants to try their hand at creating the new Nokia-branded ringtone.
Each competing track must not exceed 30 seconds in duration and can also be an original arrangement of tunes already used by Nokia itself.
Once ready, the ringtone can be submitted by October 2nd, by registering on the official Nokia competition page.
At this point, the community will be able to vote for the ringtones they deem best, identifying 5 finalists. This group of five will be submitted to the judgment of a jury of audio industry technicians who will choose the winning ringtone.
The prize includes $10,000 as well as the inclusion of the new ringtone on all Nokia mobile phones released in 2012.
The other four finalists will also be rewarded, albeit to a lesser extent: they will receive $1,000 and a space on Ovi Store.
The success of a mobile phone is certainly not dictated by a jingle, however, it is true that strengthening the brand – including through an unmistakable ringtone – is a good move, especially in view of the upcoming news regarding the release of new Nokia smartphones.
