“Mega-search.me” arrives online, a search engine that would allow you to fish in the list of files within Mega.
The arrival of Mega, the revived project born from the ashes of Megaupload, did not go unnoticed: the service has indeed started to function, attracting thousands of registrations in a few days.
Also thanks to having 50 GB of storage available even for users accessing without a subscription, the numbers for Mega were not long in coming, and so was the upload of material within the system.
The functionality of Mega has been confirmed in practice: everything is in the cloud but above all, everything is encrypted. This makes users responsible for what they upload to the Mega network, since the executives and technical staff have no way of knowing the content of the uploaded files without the appropriate key to decrypt the material.
This technical workaround, however, makes it materially very difficult to find files of interest when deciding to start downloads: since there is no way to know the contents, it should be the user who uploaded the files who provides the access key to them and thus identifies them.
An operation that is in fact impossible if the two users are not in direct contact.
To remedy this aspect, an external entity to Mega seems to have stepped in: the news of the creation of “Mega-search.me“, the search engine for Mega.
has emerged in the news. Kim Dotcom would have nothing to do with it, therefore; everything would be in progress and would fetch results from the profiles of non-paying Mega users, thus only within the scope of the famous 50 GB available to each subscriber.
Those who search through Mega-search.me will therefore be able to scan Mega and then assign a score to the selected material, thus establishing its quality level. There is also a button for reporting any problems or violations.
It is interesting to note that, just as happens on Google’s search bar, “Mega-search.me” also has an auto-completion function as you type the name of the material you are interested in.
Finally, it is Mega users themselves who can contribute to reporting new entries on Mega-search.me, so as to provide more and more entries to the search engine.
Naturally, it is reminded that downloading copyrighted material is illegal, and the new system implemented on Mega tries to evade this concept by entrusting all responsibility to the platform’s users and by “obscuring” the content entered into the system. The new search engine Mega-search.me, on the other hand, would remove this subtle “veil”.
