Steve Jobs presented the iPad 2, arriving in Italy on March 25th. Here are the main news and features of the iPad 2 and its sale price.
Punctual, the event of iPad2 presentation (of which we offer a video at the end of the article) revealed the news about the renewed Apple tablet. Meanwhile, to introduce iPad 2 appeared Steve Jobs in person: for an hour he spoke to the audience, almost more awaited for news about his health than about the tablet itself.
“We have worked a lot on this product and I could not not be here today” said Jobs when introducing iPad 2.
Let’s start with the less good news: even in this new version of the tablet there is no trace of a usb port nor a SD card slot. Despite the succession of rumors in this regard, the official presentation of iPad 2 leaves no room for doubt.
Present, however, are two cameras: the front one – placed on the frame, at the top of the screen – is a VGA webcam, perfect for using FaceTime. The other, instead, is located on the back casing, it is 5 megapixels and also allows to record HD videos.
The screen has not changed: it is a 9.7 inch, 1024 x 768 pixel resolution and it is noteworthy that this time too the Retina Display technology was not applied but it remained an LED-backlit LCD screen.
The dimensions change significantly, however,dimensions: lighter than the first iPad, it weighs in at 601 g (compared to the previous 680). The “weight cut” reflects on the reduced dimensions: 241 x 185 x 8.8 mm, thus showing a slimming down, since the previous iPad has a “side” of 13.4 mm.
Still on the aesthetic level, iPad 2 is available not only in black but also in white.
Regarding technical features, iPad 2 mounts an A5 Dual Core processor at 1GHz (much more powerful than the previous one) and the operating system is iOS 4.3.
iPad 2 is compatible with WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1 and is available in 16GB, 32GB or 64GB. This applies to both iPad 2 Wi-fi and iPad 2 Wi-fi + 3G.
Regarding the iPad 2 prices, the base model (for 16GB) is set at 499 euros.
We note that the previous version of iPad, due to the launch of iPad 2, sees a price drop: 100 euros less than the usual cost.
